Sleepers ist ein wirklich großartiges Werk, ich konnte das Buch nicht mehr aus der Hand legen. Die Handlung basiert auf wahren Begebenheiten und fesselt den Leser von der ersten bis zur letzten Seite.

Therefore, their pranks sometims cross the limits, and one day it turns out so unlucky that they are sentenced to go to a prisonlike institution.The sadistic and directly evil guards on the institution turn the ives of the inmates to Hell through psychic, phisical and even sexual abuse.Years later, two of the four friends have turned into criminals. One day, they bump into one of the guards, and they shoot him. The true revenge from the four friends however, only really begins as the following trial begins...This book is not for people with weak nerves. It is very direct, sometimes a little philisophical, but at no moment over-moralizing in the American way.

sleepers is a book that graphically describes the beatings and rapings of four boys in a home for boys.what makes it more dramatic is that the book is a true story,told by lorenzo carcatera,one of the boys.as the kids grow up in hells kitchen,they cause trouble in their neighberhood until one day they go to far and almost kill a man.they pay for that by being sentenced in a home for boys and thats where the abuse happens.i found the book pretty boring sometimes,but you cant deny the pain that these kids went through and it makes you wonder if this could be happening in other facilities of this kind somewhere else,where kids are supposed to get help not get abused.
Ok, this book was the bomb! I loved every bit of it. Well, actually, when the boys get involved in coart, it actually got boring. But that's because I'm not old enough to understand some of the things that went on. Still, the beginning was fantastic, and the ending was great too! I couldn't keep my mind off this book. It took a while to read, but it was worth it the whole time. One of my problems with the book, was that I got the boys mixed up....soon enough, though, I got that all under control. I'm was pretty young to read it, but I'm not telling you my age (not that you even care!). My point is, if you want a good book to curl up with and enjoy, well, THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU! Well, unless you don't like legal issues....
The book Sleepers by Lorenzo Carcaterra is a favorite pick in my library. Taking place in the late 1960's, 4 young boys give the epic story of their lives set in Hell's Kitchen, New York. The difficult lives of these teenagers begin once a simple prank goes teribly wrong. They enter Wilkinson Home for boys, a center that hold youthful offenders. The book goes into great detail about their experiences in the home and their encounters with abusive guards. Throughout this book it was easy to feel the pain and the high emotions than run amoung the children in the Wilkinson home for boys. This book is extremly interesting and is not at all a complex or hard to understand. This book brought a tear to my eye and brought a smile on my face. I sudject this book to anyone who enjoys suspenseful novels and great literature.
Das Buch kann ich nur jedem weiterempfehlen. Es geht definitiv unter die Haut, weil es beschreibt, wie eine "Jugendsünde" das Leben von vier Jugendlichen nachhaltig verändert. Was sie in der Jugendhaftanstalt an negativen Erfahrungen machen, geht über die menschliche Vorstellungskraft hinaus. Das Buch zeigt jedoch auch auf, wie der Ich-Erzähler (Lorenzo Carcaterra=Autor)z.B. nach der Entlassung aus der Haftanstalt sein Leben wieder in die Hand nimmt,was nicht allen seinen Freunden gelingt : Einige gehen an den Grausamkeiten, die ihnen zugefügt worden sind, zu Grunde.
